Electric Bus Service Launched in Jhelum Under CM Maryam Nawaz’s “Suthra Punjab” Vision

JHELUM: Under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative and modern transport vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the electric bus service has been formally launched in Jhelum district. The inauguration ceremony of this landmark project was attended by Provincial Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan, Provincial Minister for Health and Special Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, and Advisor to the Punjab Health Department Dr Azhar Kayani (Retd. General).

The special guests boarded an electric bus from Jada and inspected the route. During the journey, citizens warmly welcomed the bus at various points. After completing the route, the electric bus reached the main venue at the Government High School ground, where a large public gathering was present.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has fulfilled her promise of transforming a neglected Punjab into a “Clean Punjab” and is working day and night to provide maximum facilities to the public. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan stated that the Punjab government is fully committed to modernizing the transport system and, in the first phase, 15 electric buses will operate on three different routes in Jhelum district. He added that providing world-class travel facilities to citizens is among the government’s top priorities.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, in his address, said that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) government is making all-out efforts to improve the country. He shared that 22 bus stands for electric buses have already been completed, while work on more than 20 additional bus stands is progressing rapidly. Advisor to the Punjab Health Department, Dr. Azhar Kayani, said that making the country economically and defensively strong is the mission of PML-N, and under this vision, Jhelum district will be provided with 12 more electric buses within the same month.

Member of the National Assembly Farrukh Altaf thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for providing this modern facility to the people of Jhelum. A large number of women, students, and citizens from all walks of life attended the inauguration ceremony and highly appreciated the government’s initiative, terming it a major step toward clean, modern, and sustainable public transport.
