RAWALPINDI: In a significant move to strengthen economic ties, His Excellency Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba, Ambassador-Designate of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, held high-level trade and investment discussions with the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Wednesday.
The engagement focused on expanding bilateral trade, promoting investment, and establishing institutional linkages between Pakistani and Ethiopian business communities to unlock new avenues of mutual economic growth.
Addressing leading Pakistani entrepreneurs from diverse sectors, Ambassador Oba highlighted Ethiopia’s reform-driven economy and outlined vast investment opportunities in priority sectors including agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and Information & Communication Technology (ICT).
A key highlight of the meeting was the Ambassador’s invitation to Pakistani investors to participate in the “Invest in Ethiopia” Forum, scheduled for March 26–27, 2026, in Addis Ababa, which is expected to attract over 700 international investors, policymakers, and development partners. He assured full facilitation and support by the Ethiopian Embassy to Pakistani businesses interested in entering the Ethiopian market.
RCCI President Usman Shaukat warmly welcomed the Ambassador and emphasized the importance of people-to-people contacts in strengthening economic diplomacy. He praised Ethiopia’s economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and expressed confidence in the potential for enhanced bilateral trade and investment.
Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, and Former President Raja Amer also shared their views, expressing optimism about the future of Ethiopia–Pakistan economic relations.
The meeting concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony hosted by RCCI to celebrate Christmas, symbolizing goodwill and mutual respect.
