ISA Hosts Strategic Dialogue on Regional Security and Pakistan’s Response

EDG Imrana Wazir stresses informed discourse and collective intellectual engagement amid regional tensions

ISLAMABAD: The Information Service Academy (ISA) organized a strategic dialogue titled “India’s Aggression and Pakistan’s Strategic Response: Contemplating Future Course of Action” at the ISA Auditorium, Islamabad. The event brought together senior military officials, diplomats, scholars, and students to examine evolving regional security dynamics and Pakistan’s strategic outlook.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Imrana Wazir, Executive Director General (EDG), ISA, welcomed the distinguished participants and emphasized the need for informed, responsible, and timely discourse in the context of heightened tensions in South Asia. She highlighted Pakistan’s strategic potential and underscored the importance of collective intellectual engagement to effectively address future challenges.

The dialogue featured a keynote address by former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General (R) Zubair Mehmood Hayat, Guest of Honour, who discussed strategic lessons drawn from recent regional developments. He emphasized vigilance, deterrence, and strategic prudence, stating that sustainable peace must be supported by credible security preparedness. He noted that India’s strategic assumptions had proved erroneous and that attempts to impose a new normal had failed, urging a shift towards diplomacy, realism, and restraint.

Other speakers, including former Corps Commander General (R) Khalid Rabbani, former Foreign Secretaries Mr. Jauhar Saleem and Mr. Aizaz Ahmad, and President SASSI University Dr. Maria Sultan, shared perspectives on regional stability, military preparedness, air power capabilities, and diplomatic engagement. The speakers stressed the need for calibrated military strength alongside proactive diplomacy.

An interactive question-and-answer session followed, with students from various universities posing pertinent questions to the panelists.

In her concluding remarks, EDG Imrana Wazir summarized the key takeaways and reaffirmed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to navigate future security challenges through strategic foresight and prudent decision-making. She announced that this was the first dialogue in a planned series to be held over the next six months on other insightful topics. She also thanked the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) for its collaboration and appreciated the efforts of ISA officers and staff for ensuring the successful and timely conduct of the event.
