Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Protests Strongly Over Abbottabad Lady Doctor Murder Case, Multiple Matters Referred to Committees

The tragic murder of Lady Doctor Wardah Mushtaq from Abbottabad echoed through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session, where several members expressed deep concern and anger. Lawmakers said the incident was not only heartbreaking but had created fear and panic among citizens and the medical community. They demanded a high-level inquiry and immediate action against those involved.

Provincial Assembly Member Rajab Abbasi, while expressing his views, said the murder of a doctor was a matter of grave concern and should be made part of the assembly proceedings. He demanded that the culprits be arrested and punished without delay, as the incident had shaken the entire medical fraternity.

Government MPA Iftikhar Ali, while speaking in the House, said that the abduction and murder of Lady Doctor Wardah Mushtaq was the first such incident in the district and had caused widespread anxiety among the residents of Abbottabad. He urged the government to take strict notice of the incident and take stern action against those involved. MPA Amna Sardar termed the murder an outcome of government incompetence and institutional negligence, stating that abducting and killing a woman in broad daylight was condemnable and unacceptable.

Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, while commenting on the Abbottabad incident, said it was extremely unfortunate. He noted that the police were investigating the case and had arrested three suspects so far. The Speaker added that if there were flaws in the investigation system, the House existed to improve such laws. He also directed that the DIG be summoned to brief the House on the matter.

During the question hour, MPA Ahmad Kundi sought complete details of loans obtained between 2007 and 2024, stating that the province’s total debt had reached 870 billion rupees. Considering the sensitivity of the issue, it was referred to the Standing Committee.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Endowment Fund (Kalash Community) Bill 2025 was also presented in the House. According to the proposed bill, an initial allocation of 100 million rupees would be made to establish the endowment fund. A committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral would oversee the fund, and a female Qazi from the Kalash community would also be included.

On a separate matter, MPA Amna Sardar expressed dissatisfaction with the incomplete reply to her question regarding the Board of Governors of the Bank of Khyber. The Speaker expressed strong displeasure with the concerned department, directing the relevant officer to present a clarification within three days, and referred the matter to the committee.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information (Amendment) Bill 2025 was also presented in the House by Law Minister Aftab Alam and, as per business rules, was sent to the relevant committee.

The assembly session was adjourned until Wednesday, December 10, at 2 PM.
