PESHAWAR: Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar, in collaboration with the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), organized an orientation ceremony for students enrolled in its newly introduced foreign language program. A large number of faculty members and students attended the event.
The objective of these program is to equip future healthcare professionals with the ability to overcome language barriers and establish effective communication with patients. To facilitate better overseas employment opportunities for graduates of various medical disciplines including medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and allied health sciences KMU has partnered with NUML to initially introduce three languages: German, Arabic, and English for its under and post graduate students.
In the first batch, 57 students have enrolled in German, 25 in English, and 17 in Arabic language courses. The inaugural ceremony of this batch was held at the Dr. Hafizullah Auditorium, with KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq as the chief guest and NUML Regional Director Brig. (R) Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman Malik as the guest of honor.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq emphasized that the world is changing rapidly, and proficiency in foreign languages is a vital necessity of the modern era. He said that learning additional languages is essential not only for effective communication but also for enhancing employability and strengthening one’s CV. He highlighted that Arabic is a fundamental requirement in the Middle East, while mastery of other languages opens up greater opportunities for international employment and professional growth. He stressed that such programs will benefit students and professionals individually while also contributing to the strengthening of the national healthcare system.
Speaking on the occasion, NUML Regional Director Brig. (R) Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman Malik stated that language is not merely a means of communication but also an effective tool for personality development and professional growth. He added that learning a language is an art that refines with practice. He expressed confidence that these programs will create new employment opportunities for healthcare professionals and enable them to represent Pakistan as ambassadors across the globe.
