Unwholesome meat, expired beverages seized in Mardan, Lower Dir and DI Khan
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) carried out major enforcement operations across the province as part of its ongoing crackdown against substandard and unhygienic food items, seizing unwholesome meat and expired beverages in Mardan, Lower Dir and Dera Ismail Khan.
According to a spokesperson for the Food Authority, during a checkpoint operation on Nowshera Road in Mardan, the food safety team recovered 300 kilograms of unwholesome meat from a vehicle. The meat was immediately destroyed on the spot, while heavy fines were imposed on the owners.
The spokesperson further stated that in Lower Dir, a joint operation was conducted by the food safety team along with the district administration and the Livestock Department at Timergara Bazaar. During the raid, more than 300 kilograms of unhygienic meat were recovered from a butcher shop. The shop was sealed, an FIR was registered, and the butcher was taken into custody.
Meanwhile, in Dera Ismail Khan, the food safety team raided a warehouse in Paroa Bazaar and seized 1,100 litres of expired beverages. The warehouse owner was also fined heavily for violating food safety regulations.
Director General KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, appreciated the performance of the food safety teams and reiterated that indiscriminate action against those involved in the sale of unsafe and substandard food would continue across the province. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found compromising public health.
