DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Jamiat Ulema-eIslam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has announced that Pakistan’s second largest cargo airport, after Gwadar International Airport, will soon be constructed in Dera Ismail Khan. Speaking to Media Home CEO Muhammad Rehan and a delegation of local dignitaries at his residence, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the project would serve as a major global trade hub under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). “This cargo airport will not only benefit the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but will also serve the adjoining districts of Punjab and Balochistan,” he added. According to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Section Four has already been implemented for the land acquisition of the airport. Expert teams are conducting surveys and preparing reports to finalize the runway’s location and alignment. “Soon, the Civil Aviation Authority team will brief us further on the project’s progress,” he said. He further revealed that along with the airport, an industrial zone is planned in the region, with a special focus on agrobased industries to boost local economic development. “The adjacent population near CPEC will greatly benefit from these initiatives,” he stated. In response to a question, Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized that lasting development requires stability. “Unrest is a major obstacle to collective progress, and it must be resolved with wisdom, insight, and by considering ground realities,” he concluded.
