PESHAWAR: A high-level meeting regarding the damages caused by recent rains and floods in District Khyber was held under the chairmanship of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Communication and Works, Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner District Khyber Bilal Shahid Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and representatives from the Communication and Works, Local Government, Irrigation, Public Health Engineering, and Education Departments, along with other relevant institutions.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner District Khyber gave a detailed briefing to the participants regarding the damage assessment survey and the ongoing relief activities. The briefing highlighted that the recent heavy rains and flash floods caused significant loss of lives and property across various areas of District Khyber. Several houses were either completely or partially damaged, educational institutions and playgrounds were affected, and there were also reports of the loss of livestock. In addition, incidents of landslides triggered by the rains further aggravated the public’s hardships.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed what measures should be prioritized for providing relief to the affected families and for the restoration of the damaged infrastructure. Relevant departments also presented their performance reports and future planning during the session.
Addressing the participants, Special Assistant Muhammad Sohail Afridi said that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is fully aware of the hardships faced by the people, and all available resources will be utilized to provide maximum relief to the affected population. He appreciated the efforts of the district administration Khyber, all concerned departments, Rescue 1122, and the PTI PK-70 team, who took timely and effective steps during the recent heavy rains and floods.
He further assured: “Insha’Allah, my team and I will continue to stand with our people day and night, and this mission of service will go on.” Muhammad Sohail Afridi reiterated that the rehabilitation of the affected population is the government’s top priority, and for this purpose, the provincial government is working in close coordination with the district administration and all relevant institutions under an integrated strategy.
