Promotion of Sports — The Only Way to Protect Youth from Drugs and Social Evils: Malik Ghulam Murtaza

ABBOTTABAD: Chairman of the Abbottabad Sports Welfare Council, Malik Ghulam Murtaza, has emphasized that the most effective way to curb rising social evils, particularly the growing trend of drug addiction among the youth, is through the promotion of sports. He said that engaging the younger generation in healthy activities is the only way to build a conscious, energetic, and peaceful society.

Speaking to the media, Malik Ghulam Murtaza was accompanied by former Director General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tariq Mehmood.

He said that Pakistan’s youth possess immense talent and potential, but they need proper guidance and opportunities to channel their energies in the right direction. “If our youth are provided with sufficient sporting opportunities and platforms, they can become the pride of the nation,” he stated confidently.

Malik Ghulam Murtaza further stressed the need to make sports activities mandatory in all government and private educational institutions. “Sports are not merely a source of recreation but a form of character-building training that teaches discipline, teamwork, endurance, and patience,” he remarked.

Highlighting the initiatives of the Abbottabad Sports Welfare Council, he shared that the organization was established with the cooperation of like-minded friends to guide young athletes and bring their hidden talents to light. “The council not only supports players in their sporting careers but also contributes to their educational growth,” he added.

He went on to say that society must care for all children the same way parents care for their own. “Until we collectively work for the better future of our younger generation, we cannot achieve true happiness and satisfaction,” he observed.

Concluding his remarks, Malik Ghulam Murtaza said there is no doubt that the promotion of sports can not only eliminate the curse of drugs and other social evils but also lay the foundation for a peaceful, healthy, and progressive Pakistan.
