Russia Highlights Key Foreign Policy Achievements of 2025

MOSCOW: Russia in 2025 made a substantial contribution to strengthening the foundations of a just multipolar world order based on international law, mutual respect and cooperation among states. Decisive steps were taken to safeguard Russia’s vital national interests, with priority given to the CIS region and broader Eurasia.

Marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, Russia, together with like-minded international partners, reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the post-war world order and the principles of the UN Charter as an indivisible and interdependent whole. The Commonwealth of Independent States declared 2025 the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight against Nazism.

At Russia’s initiative, a solemn UN General Assembly session commemorating the victims of World War II was held in New York in May, while an annual resolution combating the glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism was adopted in December with the support of 44 countries.

Strategic partnership with China was further strengthened through high-level diplomacy and reciprocal visits by President Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping. Political dialogue with the United States was restored following the change of administration, culminating in the Russia-US summit in Anchorage, where understandings were reached that may serve as a basis for resolving the Ukraine conflict.

Relations with North Korea and Iran entered new stages through enhanced strategic cooperation and the signing and enforcement of comprehensive partnership treaties. Russia also achieved tangible progress in advancing Eurasian integration and strengthening collective security mechanisms within the CSTO.

At the UN, Russia played a key role in proclaiming new international days against colonialism and unilateral coercive measures. Efforts were also intensified to protect traditional religious values, support humanitarian resettlement, and counter disinformation about Russia globally.

Firm defence of national interests compelled hostile states to acknowledge the futility of attempts to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia, contributing to a shift toward the concept of an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Ukrainian theatre.
