Bajaur : The lack of skills and technical education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the tribal districts, has reached an alarming level, depriving a large number of young people of employment opportunities and pushing them into economic hardship. According to a report by social activist Rahmat Ullah Mamund, the ratio of skills and technical education in these areas is almost negligible, reflecting a serious lack of government attention.
The report states that in the modern era, skills education has become essential for both men and women to secure sustainable livelihoods. However, the absence of training institutions and policy-level neglect has blocked avenues of progress for the youth. Thousands of young people remain deprived of vocational training, leading to rising unemployment and increasing economic pressure.
According to Rahmat Ullah Mamund, women face even greater challenges in this regard. On one hand, there is a lack of educational facilities, and on the other, social and cultural barriers hinder their professional growth. He emphasized that women’s education and skills development are crucial not only for individual empowerment but also for overall social progress.
The report further highlights that tribal districts have already suffered economically due to militancy and military operations, which have destroyed local businesses and limited employment opportunities. In such circumstances, the absence of technical education has further aggravated the situation.
Rahmat Ullah Mamund urged both federal and provincial governments to take immediate steps to establish vocational training centers in Bajaur and other tribal districts, promote technical education, and ensure equal opportunities for both men and women. He also stressed the need for awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of skills development in underdeveloped areas.
Meanwhile, local residents have expressed serious concern over the situation, warning that without urgent intervention, an entire generation may be deprived of practical skills and the ability to contribute effectively to national development.
Experts believe that investment in skills and technical education can play a key role in reducing unemployment, strengthening the economy, and enabling youth to become self-reliant. The current situation demands immediate and effective action to secure a better future for the region’s young population.
