CHARSADDA: Central Chairman of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and former Federal Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, while addressing a workers’ convention in Tangi, said that the current government has completely failed to resolve the problems of the people. He expressed serious concern over the latest World Bank poverty report, stating that the poverty rate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to 29.5 percent, which he described as alarming. According to him, while the government boasts about economic progress, the reality is the opposite as citizens are crushed under the burden of inflation and unemployment.
Sherpao said that inflation has made people’s lives miserable, and they are struggling even to afford two meals a day. He alleged that corruption is at its peak in the province, jobs are being openly sold, and merit has been completely ignored. Such circumstances, he warned, are pushing the youth towards despair.
Criticizing the provincial government, he said that the law-and-order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is deteriorating day by day. Rising incidents of terrorism have created fear and restlessness among the public as well as police personnel. He added that the provincial government has not only failed to ensure peace but has also been unable to take adequate steps for the rehabilitation of flood-affected families.
Highlighting the education sector, Sherpao strongly criticized the government’s policies and opposed the privatization of schools. He said education is a constitutional responsibility of the state. With millions of children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa already deprived of schooling, he warned that the privatization of schools would worsen the situation and make access to education even more difficult for the poor.
During his address, Sherpao also highlighted the development works carried out in Charsadda under the Qaumi Watan Party’s leadership. He claimed that most of the development projects in the district were completed by QWP. He reiterated that his party firmly believes in public service and would continue its struggle with the same commitment.
In conclusion, Sherpao demanded that the federal government provide special relief to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan so that the people of these underdeveloped provinces could be rescued from hardships. He emphasized that honest leadership and practical steps are essential for the province’s development, restoration of peace, and resolution of public problems.
