PESHAWAR: Under the management of the Department of Tourism and Culture Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and with the support of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), Spanish artists presented a captivating Andalusian Flamenco folk dance and musical performance at Nishtar Hall Peshawar. The event marked the revival of international cultural activities at the historic venue after several decades.
Secretary Tourism, Culture, Archaeology & Museums Dr. Abdul Samad, Director General KPCTA Habibullah Arif, Consul General of Barcelona Murad Wazir, Director Admin & Finance KPCTA Umar Arshad Khan, Director Culture Ajmal Khan, along with other dignitaries, attended the event.
Originating in the scenic region of Andalusia in the 18th century, Flamenco is a soulful blend of music, dance, and emotion — expressing love, passion, and the essence of human experience. This spirit was beautifully brought to life at Nishtar Hall through an enchanting performance combining guitar, flute, and rhythmic dance, captivating the largely female audience.
Welcoming the guests, Secretary Tourism Dr. Abdul Samad remarked,
“For the first time in decades, we have seen a significant gathering of women enjoying a cultural program at Nishtar Hall. This is a very positive sign toward reviving the cultural spirit of Peshawar.”
He further announced the return of the historic Jashn-e-Khyber Festival at Nishtar Hall in the near future, describing it as a vital celebration of the region’s artistic and cultural heritage.
Consul General Barcelona, Murad Wazir, expressed his gratitude, saying,
“The Spanish artists have received immense love from Peshawar and across Pakistan. We are touched by the hospitality here. Such cultural exchanges strengthen ties between nations and promote shared heritage.”
DG KPCTA Habibullah Arif added that the Flamenco show has not only revitalized international cultural events but also encouraged women’s participation in artistic gatherings.
The ceremony concluded with the Spanish artists being presented traditional Chitrali shawls and caps as a token of appreciation and friendship.
