In the contemporary era, the situation the world is facing reflects a stark reality: power politics has pushed the concept of peace into the background. Ongoing wars and conflicts at the global level are clear evidence that in the struggle for power, peace is suffering continuous defeat. As a result, the global order once seen as a symbol of stability, cooperation, and mutual respect now appears weak and ineffective.
The global order was founded on the hope that law would prevail over power and dialogue would replace war. Institutions established after the Second World War were meant to save the world from another major catastrophe. However, over time, powerful states began to manipulate these principles to serve their own interests. Consequently, the global system lost its balance, and the concept of justice was undermined.
In today’s world, power is increasingly becoming everything. Decisions are being imposed through military strength, economic pressure, and political influence. For weaker countries, neither international laws remain effective nor international institutions prove reliable. When powerful states place themselves above the law, the foundations of the global order inevitably begin to shake.
The greatest casualty of this struggle for power is global peace. Wars raging across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Africa have demonstrated that peace is no longer a priority. Instead of negotiations, weapons are being used to resolve disputes. This approach has pushed the world toward a state of permanent instability.
Another major reason for the weakness of the global order is the failure of international institutions. Organizations such as the United Nations appear limited to issuing statements. Resolutions are passed, but implementation remains absent. Powers like the veto have made justice subordinate to power. In such circumstances, the erosion of trust in the global system is only natural.
The war for power has also severely affected the global economy. Conflicts have led to rising prices of oil, gas, and food. Inflation, unemployment, and economic slowdown have made life difficult for people worldwide. Developing countries are the most affected, where citizens are increasingly deprived of basic necessities. The global order appears incapable of offering solutions to these problems.
The human cost of these wars is the most painful aspect. Millions have lost their lives, tens of millions have been displaced, and the refugee crisis has intensified. Women, children, and the elderly are the worst affected. Tragically, global powers often view these human tragedies through the lens of political interests, further weakening hopes for peace.
Power politics has also accelerated the arms race. Major countries continue to increase their defense budgets. Advanced and deadly weapons are being developed, including nuclear arms. This situation is a grave warning for the entire world, as even a small mistake could lead to a massive catastrophe.
Environmental issues have also fallen victim to the struggle for power. Military activities are causing severe damage to the environment, yet the global system continues to ignore this aspect. Resources that should be spent on environmental protection are instead being allocated to war preparations, worsening problems for future generations.
The question arises: why is the global order growing weaker? The simple answer is that when power is given precedence over law and interests are prioritized over humanity, systems collapse. Peace cannot be achieved through slogans alone; it requires practical and sincere actions.
In conclusion, it would not be wrong to say that if the world does not put an end to the war for power, the defeat of peace will deepen further. To save the global order, it is essential to restore justice, equality, and dialogue to the center. Otherwise, this struggle for power will push the entire world into a crisis from which escape will be extremely difficult.
