JAMRUD: The toxic fumes emitted by crush machines near Jamrud’s Takhta Begh are causing severe public health issues for local residents. Residents claim that children, women, and the elderly are falling ill, while the constant presence of smoke in homes is severely impacting daily life. Speaking at a press conference at Jamrud Press Club, local residents including Malik Younas expressed that the illegal crush machines near their homes are continuously emitting poisonous smoke.

They stated that the fumes are causing respiratory diseases, asthma, allergies, eye irritation, cough, skin diseases, and various other health issues among children and women. The residents said that the smoke is entering homes, making it difficult to cook, do laundry, and perform other household chores as the area remains constantly enveloped in smoke.

Malik Younas alleged that despite clear orders from the High Court, the district administration has failed to shut down the crush machines in Jamrud Takhta Begh. “The machines were sealed once, but reopened after some time,” he said, adding that MNA Iqbal Afridi had sided with the machine owners, which was highly regrettable.
