PESHAWAR: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, in collaboration with the Provincial Services Academy (PSA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has launched the province’s first Senior Management Course (SMC) for officers of technical departments. The 12-week training program, which commenced today, is mandatory for the promotion of officers from BPS-19 to BPS-20 in departments including Irrigation, Communication & Works (C&W), Excise & Anti-Narcotics, and Science & Information Technology.
The initiative is being implemented under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UET Peshawar and PSA, with the objective of strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing leadership, governance, and policy-level competencies among senior provincial officers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak, Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar, said that the launch of the Senior Management Course reflects UET’s strategic role in supporting public sector reforms through advanced professional training. He emphasized that UET Peshawar possesses highly qualified faculty, modern infrastructure, and interdisciplinary expertise to deliver impactful training programs aligned with the evolving needs of senior government officials.
Mr. Abdul Basit, Secretary Irrigation Department, stated that the course has been specifically designed to prepare officers for senior leadership and policy-making roles. He underlined the importance of ethical decision-making, human-centered planning, and strategic thinking in the successful execution of public sector projects, urging participants to fully utilize the training to enhance their managerial skills and institutional contributions.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Muhammad Zubair Asghar Qureshi, Director General PSA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, noted that the Senior Management Course is a key component of PSA’s comprehensive professional development framework for civil servants. He added that the program covers critical contemporary themes essential for effective governance at higher administrative levels. He also appreciated the collaboration with UET Peshawar and acknowledged the efforts of Prof. Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Khan, Continuing Engineering Education Center (CEEC), and his team for the successful launch of the initiative.
Earlier, Mr. Abdul Sattar, Chief Instructor PSA, briefed the participants on the course structure and outlines.
