World Pashto Jirga Holds Grand Mushaira in Peshawar, Promotes Pashto Culture

PESHAWAR: Chairman of the World Pashto Jirga, Professor Aseer Mangal, has said that the development of a language is directly linked to the progress of a nation, reaffirming his commitment to serve Pashto language until his last breath.

He expressed these views during a grand poetry symposium (Azad Mushaira) organized in connection with the wedding celebrations of Haroon Rashid, a prominent literary, cultural, and social figure. The event was held at Hujra Abdul Waris Khan in Dabgari Bazaar, Peshawar.

The presidium included Patron-in-Chief Haji Muhammad Zubair Khan, Professor Aseer Mangal, Professor Dr. Muhammad Zubair Hasrat, Roshan Yousafzai, Hidayatullah Gul, Fazal Mola Turki, Zafar Khan Zafar, and the groom Haroon Rashid, while the proceedings were conducted by Dr. Alam Yousafzai.

A large number of poets including Noor-ul-Bashar Naveed, Fareedun Khan, Amjad Ali Khadim, Qaiser Ali Shah Qaiser Kakakhel, Dr. Gohar Ali Shah Gohar, Hameed-ur-Rehman Nadan, Sadiq Amanzai, Dr. Baseer Bedar Stori, Sher Wali Khan Orakzai, Rashid Jan Rashid, Umar Khattab, Fayyaz Shadab, and Akhtar Hussain Nengyal presented their poetry and received appreciation from the audience.

Before presenting his Kalam, Amjad Ali Khadim recited selected verses of noted poets Professor Dr. Muhammad Azam Azam and Dr. Kazim Niaz, Patron of Niaz Adabi Sangar Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and shared a special message sent from Washington by Dr. Kazim Niaz. In his message, Dr. Niaz congratulated Haroon Rashid and appreciated the unique literary celebration. He also termed aerial firing at weddings a harmful practice and suggested replacing it with constructive activities like poetry gatherings to promote positive values among youth.

Patron of the World Pashto Jirga, Haji Muhammad Zubair Khan, thanked all participants and reiterated his commitment to promoting Pashto language, literature, and culture. He announced that an international literary conference would soon be held in Peshawar.

At the conclusion of the first session, Professor Aseer Mangal presented a traditional “Sehra” to the groom, while Noor-ul-Bashar Naveed honored Haroon Rashid with a floral garland.

The second session featured cultural performances, where renowned artist Fayyaz Khan Kheshgi enthralled the audience with his melodious renditions of classical and contemporary Pashto poetry, adding vibrancy and charm to the event.
