MARDAN: A one-day seminar on “Women Empowerment and Inclusion in Decision Making” was organized on September 23, 2025, at Women University Mardan (WUM) by the Office of the Chief Proctor. The event was held under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Dr. Razia Sultana, whose vision and encouragement continue to drive academic and awareness initiatives across the University.

Although the Vice Chancellor was engaged in Defence Day celebrations at the Main Campus, her directives paved the way for the successful organization of the seminar.

Distinguished guest speakers, Dr. Farha Khan, Head of the Institute of Education & Research (IER), and Dr. Rani Begum, Head of the Department of Urdu, addressed the gathering. They stressed that women’s empowerment, equal representation, and active participation in leadership are essential for building a just, inclusive, and progressive society.

The seminar was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Rashida Parveen, Chief Proctor, who reaffirmed WUM’s commitment to fostering leadership, confidence, and resilience among female students.

In parallel with the seminar, a survey was conducted to capture students’ views on women’s empowerment and inclusion in decision-making. The findings revealed that most students believe women possess equal leadership potential as men and that excluding them weakens governance and peacebuilding.

Participants also identified cultural norms, stereotypes, and institutional barriers as major challenges. Recommendations included leadership training programs, mentorship opportunities, and greater female representation in decision-making forums.

A large number of students and faculty actively participated in the seminar and survey. The program concluded with an interactive session, where students shared their ideas for strengthening women’s leadership roles at community, institutional, and national levels.

Participants expressed gratitude to Vice Chancellor Dr. Razia Sultana for her unwavering support and praised the Office of the Chief Proctor for organizing a thought-provoking and inspiring event.
