WUM Observes Defence Day with Patriotic Zeal

MARDAN: Women University Mardan (WUM) commemorated Defence Day 2025 with great reverence and national spirit at its Main Campus, paying tribute to the martyrs and heroes of the 1965 war. The event highlighted Pakistan’s resilience, unity, and the sacrifices made for the nation’s sovereignty, while instilling patriotism among the youth.

The program, organized under the theme of “Sacrifice and Valor”, brought together faculty, staff, and more than 200 students who actively participated in a range of creative and academic activities. Students presented tableaux and mili naghmas, portraying the courage and sacrifices of the armed forces, while speech competitions in both Urdu and English explored themes of bravery, national security, and lessons from the 1965 war. A poster competition further showcased the artistic talents of students, reflecting gratitude and solidarity through powerful imagery in the colors of the national flag.

The event was meticulously organized by a team of dedicated faculty members including Dr. Hassina Bashir, Dr. Nelofar Ikram, Dr. Robina Rashid, Ms. Anfal Afridi, Ms. Rani Zain, Ms. Sara Khan, Ms. Halima Ikram (Director ORIC), and Mr. Fazal Mueez. Their efforts ensured a smooth execution of the program while reinforcing the university’s commitment to fostering national pride and academic excellence.

The ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana, Vice Chancellor of Women University Mardan, as the Chief Guest. In her address, she emphasized the enduring significance of Defence Day and praised the martyrs’ sacrifices as a guiding light for future generations. She encouraged students to channel the same spirit of dedication into their academic pursuits and civic responsibilities, commending both organizers and participants for upholding the true essence of the day.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sultana remarked, “The sacrifices of our heroes are an eternal source of inspiration. Today’s youth must carry forward this spirit of service, integrity, and resilience to build a stronger Pakistan.”

The Defence Day celebration at Women University Mardan, Main Campus concluded with a united resolve to honor the legacy of Pakistan’s heroes while preparing the next generation to safeguard the nation’s future.
