Peshawar:
In response to an alleged propaganda campaign against Mafkoora, an organization working for the promotion of mother languages, culture, education, research, fine arts, and the prevention of extremism in Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the institution’s founder and Pashto language expert Hayat Roghani addressed a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club yesterday and leveled serious allegations.
Hayat Roghani stated that, with deep regret, a person claiming to be Professor Agha Syed joined the organization in 2025 and initially presented ambitious plans for the welfare and stability of the institution. However, he later attempted to influence the organization’s academic, research, cultural, and artistic activities.
He alleged that the individual collected money from various people in the name of Mafkoora without the knowledge of the organization’s administration and later demanded a large sum of money—reportedly in the hundreds of thousands—from the institution itself.
According to Roghani, the same person also submitted a complaint against Mafkoora to the CCPO Peshawar under a fictitious name. He said the organization itself welcomed an impartial investigation and was ready to present facts before any forum, but despite approaching the police, they were made to visit police stations daily for one and a half months without their stance being heard.
He further said that surprisingly, while he was physically present inside a police station, an FIR alleging assault outside the premises was registered against him by an unknown complainant, resulting in his spending two days in police custody and six days in jail.
Roghani alleged that during this period, a coordinated propaganda campaign was launched on social media against both him and Mafkoora to damage the institution’s reputation.
He added that the unidentified individual repeatedly attempted to occupy Mafkoora’s office by bringing groups of people, but these attempts were foiled with police assistance, and records of these incidents are available with the police.
Hayat Roghani appealed to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, the Inspector General of Police, the CCPO Peshawar, the Chief Secretary, and relevant institutions to conduct a transparent investigation, take action against those responsible, ensure justice, and provide protection to Mafkoora and its staff.
