Peshawar: A first-of-its-kind souvenir shop has been inaugurated at the Peshawar Museum to promote and showcase products made by inmates of jails in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to encourage their skills and rehabilitation.

The chief guest at the inauguration ceremony was Secretary Culture, Tourism and Archaeology Saadat Hassan. Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rehan Gul Khattak, Director General Archaeology and Museums Dr. Abdul Samad, and Member National Assembly Faisal Amin Gandapur were also present on the occasion.

It was stated that the souvenir shop is not merely a commercial or cultural initiative but a practical effort to promote the concept of correction, under which prisoners are engaged in positive and skill-based activities to help them become productive members of society.

The shop features handicrafts, paintings, and other handmade items prepared by prisoners. It was announced that 30 percent of the profits from sales will be given to the respective inmates as remuneration, which will play an important role in their encouragement and rehabilitation.

The project reflects a collaborative effort between the Department of Archaeology and Museums and the Department of Prisons, aiming to promote cultural heritage while strengthening the rehabilitation system.
