PESHAWAR: A delegation of the Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) met with the leadership of CPNE Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to discuss the issue of outstanding dues of working journalists and the protection of their rights.
The KUJ delegation included President Kashifuddin Syed, General Secretary Irshad Ali, Senior Vice President Imran Ayaz, Vice President Shahzad Ahmed and other representatives. Chairman CPNE KP Tahir Farooq and Executive Member Fazal-ul-Haq represented CPNE in the meeting.
During the discussion, CPNE leadership assured that efforts would be made to ensure the payment of outstanding dues owed by member newspapers and that progress would be achieved soon. They also made it clear that in cases where any member newspaper fails to pay dues, CPNE would stand with journalists and play an active role in resolving the matter.
It was mutually agreed that a comprehensive list of affected journalists along with their pending dues will be provided to CPNE to facilitate a structured and effective payment process.
The CPNE leadership reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights of working journalists. On the occasion, KUJ President stated that while the union seeks a respectful and cooperative relationship with media owners, it will not compromise on journalists’ rights and pending dues. He added that the union will support owners who take positive steps to protect journalists’ rights.
Following the assurances given by CPNE KP Chairman Tahir Farooq, KUJ has temporarily postponed its proposed writ petition in the Peshawar High Court regarding non-payment of dues. However, both sides agreed to continue negotiations until the issue is fully resolved.
