PESHAWAR: The Hamza Foundation Welfare Thalassaemia Center & Blood Transfusion Services Peshawar has released its progress report covering the period from July 2006 to April 30, 2026, highlighting significant achievements in blood collection, patient support, and disease screening.
According to the report, a total of 193,688 blood bags have been collected over the years. The Foundation issued 107,480 blood/products to thalassaemia patients, 46,562 to hemophilia patients, and 81,581 to government and private hospitals, bringing the total blood/products issued to 235,623 bags.
The blood screening report revealed cases of infectious diseases, including 3,225 Hepatitis B, 1,141 Hepatitis C, and 164 HIV/AIDS cases marked as reactive.
Additionally, 655 VDRL and 65 malaria parasite cases were reported positive.
The Foundation has registered 1,571 patients, including 1,357 thalassaemia patients, 149 hemophilia patients, and 65 patients with other blood disorders.
Under its CVS program for thalassaemia testing during pregnancy, 453 cases were screened. Among these, 130 cases of thalassaemia major were detected and subsequently aborted, 203 were identified as traits, and 120 were reported as normal.
The report reflects Hamza Foundation’s continued commitment to saving lives and improving healthcare services for patients suffering from blood disorders in the region.
