WASHINGTON: The U.S. Department of State has launched an online tip portal enabling members of the public to report suspected fraud and misuse of U.S. visas.
According to a media note issued by the Department of State, public tips have helped authorities identify and take action against tens of thousands of suspected visa fraudsters during President Donald Trump’s second term.
The new online tool is intended to provide a convenient and reliable channel for submitting information for review and possible action by relevant authorities.
The Department said its Bureau of Consular Affairs is carrying out extensive fraud detection and prevention efforts to prevent individuals from entering the United States through fraudulent means or for illegal purposes.
Visa fraud may involve falsified documents or travel plans, sham marriages arranged by brokers, shell companies, fabricated job offers, birth tourism and other fraudulent schemes.
The Department stated that visa fraud can harm U.S. communities and the economy while potentially affecting national security and public safety. It added that U.S. laws would be enforced against those involved in visa fraud, including through visa revocation and referrals for further law-enforcement investigation.
The public can submit information about suspected visa fraud or misuse through the Department of State’s online portal.
