PESHAWAR : Former Peshawar Bar Association president Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil Advocate has formally entered the race for the Bar’s presidency, unveiling an ambitious manifesto focused on lawyers’ welfare, institutional development, young advocates’ professional growth and improved coordination between the Bench and the Bar.

Announcing his candidacy, Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil highlighted his previous tenure as president in 2017, saying several major development projects were completed under his leadership, including the Waqar Seth Building, New Lawyers Building and Bodybuilding Club.

He said his previous record was evidence of his ability to translate commitments into practical results, adding that his campaign would focus on performance rather than slogans and hollow promises.

Under his proposed welfare agenda, young lawyers would be provided laptops to support their professional work, while newly enrolled advocates would be offered a five-year scholarship programme. He also pledged to establish a modern, properly equipped cafeteria for members of the Bar.

Giving particular attention to the welfare of senior and ailing lawyers, Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil promised special medical facilities on a par with those available to Grade-17 government employees. He further pledged to address the professional concerns of women lawyers and create a safer, more supportive and conducive working environment for them.

He said strengthening mutual respect, trust and coordination between the Bench and the Bar would remain one of his foremost priorities. According to him, improved institutional coordination would help resolve lawyers’ grievances more effectively and contribute to better administration of justice.

Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil urged members of the Bar to judge his candidature on the basis of his past performance and proposed welfare measures rather than campaign promises.

He said his objective was not simply to win an election but to provide effective representation and meaningful service to the legal community, pledging to work for the dignity, welfare and professional advancement of lawyers if elected.
