PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Food, Dr Muhammad Israr Khan, has termed the restrictions on the supply of wheat and flour from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a blatant violation of the Constitution of Pakistan and called for their immediate withdrawal.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi in Islamabad. The meeting discussed in detail the restrictions imposed on the transportation of wheat and flour to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and their constitutional and legal implications.
Dr Israr Khan said the Punjab government’s action was contrary to the spirit and provisions of Article 151 of the Constitution, which guarantees the free movement of wheat, flour and other goods among provinces.
He stressed that the restrictions on wheat and flour supply should be lifted without delay, as they were directly affecting the poor and vulnerable segments of society.
“Political differences should not come at the expense of the public. Any measure that harms public interest is unacceptable,” he said.
The Special Assistant urged the federal government and the judiciary to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure action in accordance with constitutional requirements.
He further stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would raise its voice against obstacles in the supply of wheat and flour through all available constitutional and legal forums.
Dr Israr Khan reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the people and ensuring the uninterrupted availability of essential food commodities across the province.
