Imtiaz Ahmad Condemns Remarks on Pharmaceutical Industry

TIMES REPORT

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (KPPMA) has strongly condemned remarks made by MPA Arbab Muhammad Usman on the floor of the Provincial Assembly regarding the alleged manufacturing of spurious medicines in Namak Mandi, Peshawar.

In a statement issued on Thursday, KPPMA President Imtiaz Ahmad termed the allegations baseless and unsubstantiated, saying such generalized remarks from an important legislative forum could seriously damage the reputation of the pharmaceutical industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He stated that the pharmaceutical sector is among the fastest-growing industries in the province and plays a significant role in economic development, employment generation and the provision of quality healthcare services.

Imtiaz Ahmad emphasized that pharmaceutical manufacturers operating in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produce medicines in accordance with national regulatory requirements and internationally recognized quality standards. He noted that several pharmaceutical companies from the province are successfully exporting their products to different countries, earning valuable foreign exchange for Pakistan.

He said the statement attributed to the legislator was contrary to facts and could create unnecessary concerns among consumers, healthcare professionals and international buyers. According to him, such remarks adversely affect the credibility of the pharmaceutical sector, discourage business activity and may negatively impact exports and investor confidence.

The KPPMA president urged elected representatives to verify facts before making public statements that could harm legitimate industries. He called upon Arbab Muhammad Usman to withdraw his remarks and issue an apology to the pharmaceutical industry for what he described as unwarranted allegations.

Reaffirming the association’s commitment to public health, Imtiaz Ahmad said the pharmaceutical industry remains dedicated to producing safe, effective and high-quality medicines in line with regulatory requirements and international best practices.

The association reiterated its resolve to continue supporting healthcare services and contributing to the economic growth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan through responsible pharmaceutical manufacturing.
