ISLAMABAD : Advocate Sardar Waqar Shahzad has invited Ambassador of Ireland to Pakistan Mary O’Neill to visit the scenic Swat Valley, highlighting the potential of tourism and cultural exchanges to further strengthen people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Ireland.
Shahzad extended the invitation during a meeting with Ambassador O’Neill at the Irish Embassy in Islamabad, where the two discussed measures to enhance bilateral interaction through tourism, education, cultural cooperation and economic linkages.
During the meeting, Shahzad presented the Irish envoy with a traditional Swat shawl as a gesture of cultural goodwill and Pakistani hospitality. He said greater people-to-people contacts and cultural exchanges could contribute significantly to deepening friendly relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Mary O’Neill appreciated the traditional gift and expressed keen interest in visiting Swat to experience its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. She recalled that she had first heard about the scenic beauty of Swat during her previous diplomatic posting in Dar es Salaam.
The two sides also exchanged views on promoting tourism between Pakistan and Ireland and discussed the scope for cultural exchanges, student exchange programmes and business-to-business linkages aimed at creating greater opportunities for economic cooperation.
Shahzad stressed the need to expand interaction between the peoples of Pakistan and Ireland through tourism, education and economic initiatives, saying stronger public-level contacts could provide a solid foundation for closer bilateral relations.
The meeting ended with a shared resolve to encourage greater cultural understanding, strengthen people-to-people contacts and explore new avenues of cooperation between Pakistan and Ireland.
