KP Government Focused on Political Opponents, Says PPP Youth Leader Irfan Afridi

TIMES REPORT

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Youth Organization Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial leader Irfan Afridi has alleged that the provincial government appears indifferent to the worsening law and order situation, administrative mismanagement and alleged corruption in government institutions, while its primary focus remains on suppressing political opponents.

In a statement, Afridi said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were facing inflation, insecurity and an administrative crisis, but instead of addressing public grievances, the rulers were engaged in political confrontation. He alleged that complaints of corruption and misuse of authority had become common in various government departments.

He said the government should introduce a transparent and impartial accountability mechanism within its own institutions if it was serious about eliminating corruption. He also alleged that influential individuals were being spared from effective action despite complaints of irregularities.

Afridi said those who had once campaigned for “change” and an end to corruption were now facing serious questions over the performance and transparency of the provincial government machinery. He added that the people wanted practical measures rather than political slogans.

Referring to the public and democratic stance of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari, he said the PPP stood for the Constitution, democracy, public rights and transparent governance. He stressed that political victimisation should be replaced with institutional strengthening, merit and across-the-board accountability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The PPP leader demanded impartial investigations into alleged corruption and irregularities in government institutions, saying that if evidence emerged against any minister, official or influential person allegedly acting through a frontman, legal action should be taken without discrimination.
