PESHAWAR : The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC) and civil society organization Da Hawwa Lur on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the Right to Information (RTI) as a tool for protecting fundamental human rights, particularly those of women and the transgender community.
The MoU was signed by KP Chief Information Commissioner Syed Nazar Hussain Shah and Da Hawwa Lur Chief Executive Director Mrs. Khurshid Bano on behalf of their respective organizations.
Information Commissioner-I (Judicial) Arshad Ahmad and other KPIC officials were also present at the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, KPIC and Da Hawwa Lur will jointly organize awareness campaigns and outreach activities across the province to educate citizens, especially women, about their rights under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act.
The partnership also aims to encourage women and members of the transgender community to effectively use the RTI law to promote transparency, accountability and participatory governance. It will also facilitate easier access to public information held by government departments, enabling marginalized communities to play a more active role in governance.
Both organizations expressed confidence that the free flow of information would strengthen transparent and accountable governance while contributing to the empowerment of women and the transgender community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
