PESHAWAR : A graceful launch ceremony for “The Woman Who Rose from the Ashes,” the debut short story collection by Maryam Khan, a member of the Karwan-e-Hawa Literary Forum, was held yesterday under the auspices of the Pakistan Writers Guild and Abaseen Arts Council. The event was attended by a large number of writers, intellectuals, and distinguished guests from various walks of life.
The ceremony was chaired by Bushra Farukh, Chairperson of the Karwan-e-Hawa Literary Forum, while Dr. Ejaz Hassan Khattak, Vice Chancellor of Gandhara University, attended as the chief guest. Abaseen Yousafzai was the guest of honor, Professor Aseer Mangal served as the host, and Professor Malik Arshad Hussain conducted the proceedings. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Qari Syed Azam Al-Azhari, followed by a naat in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) presented by Tabinda Farukh. Bouquets were later presented to the guests.
Professor Aseer Mangal, Provincial Secretary of the Pakistan Writers Guild, welcomed the participants, highlighted the Guild’s literary contributions, and congratulated Maryam Khan on the publication of her first book. Dr. Zafar Khan Bakhshali, Executive Member of the Guild, also praised the author’s literary achievement.
Speaking on the book, Faiza Shehzad, Sidrat-ul-Muntaha, Shah Mahmood, Yasmeen Qamar, Fayaz Wardag, Dr. Zaigham Hassan, and former PTV General Manager Aziz Ejaz described the collection as a valuable contribution to Urdu literature. Maryam Khan thanked the guests, participants, and organizers and shared her thoughts on the inspiration and background of her book.
In their addresses, Abaseen Yousafzai, Dr. Ejaz Hassan Khattak, and Bushra Farukh praised Maryam Khan as a promising writer and described her debut short story collection as an important literary work. The ceremony concluded with tea and refreshments for the participants.
