Karachi: Police Constable Hassan Ali, who embraced martyrdom during an armed encounter with suspected robbers in Karachi’s District West, was laid to rest with full state honours after funeral prayers were offered at Police Headquarters Garden South on Tuesday. Senior police leadership, headed by IGP Sindh, joined the martyr’s family, fellow officers and citizens in offering funeral prayers.
Constable Hassan Ali was martyred on Monday night after sustaining fatal gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with armed robbers near Liaquat Chowk within the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazaar in District West.
During the funeral prayers, SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastoi presented a tribute to the fallen constable, highlighting his courage and unwavering commitment to duty. He described Hassan Ali as a fearless, honest and dedicated police officer who laid down his life while maintaining law and order.
Expressing profound grief and extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho said the martyrs of Sindh Police are the force’s greatest asset and a lasting source of pride. He emphasized that their sacrifices would never be forgotten and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to standing by the families of its fallen personnel.
Meanwhile, police disclosed the identities and criminal records of the two suspects killed during the encounter. The deceased were identified as Asif alias Bhaiya, son of Ghulam Muhammad and Muhammad Rashid alias Phatan, son of Abdul Sattar. According to police, Asif alias Bhaiya had previously been arrested for his alleged involvement in the 2021 martyrdom of Assistant Sub-Inspector Akram. Investigators have also obtained the previous criminal records of both suspects.
The two suspects were killed in the exchange of fire while Constable Hassan Ali sustained fatal injuries and embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. Police recovered two pistols with ammunition, spent bullet casings and the motorcycle allegedly used by the suspects during the encounter.
