Eight teams to compete for one qualification spot for ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2027

DUBAI: Mehak Thakur will lead the 14-member UAE Women’s U19 team in the eight-team ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2026 which begins in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday, 23 July. The tournament is the Asia pathway event for ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2027. The winner of the tournament will earn qualification for the prestigious global tournament.
UAE have been drawn in Group A with Hong Kong China, Qatar and hosts Malaysia, the other three teams in the group. Group B includes Thailand, Kuwait, Myanmar and Bhutan. UAE play Hong Kong China in their opening game on Thursday 23 July at the Bayuemas Oval. They play the hosts Malaysia at the YSD UKM Oval on Friday, 24 July. UAE’s final group game is against Qatar, the match will be played on Sunday, 26 July at the Bayuemas Oval. All three matches will begin at 9:15am local time.
The top two teams from each group will compete in the semi-finals – Tuesday, 28 July. The two losing semi-finalists will compete for the third position in a playoff while the two winning semi-finals will compete in the Thursday, 30 July final for World Cup qualification.
UAE U19 Women’s squad – ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier: Mehak Thakur (captain), Afsha Afzal Khan, Al Maseera Jahangir, Emily Thomas (wicketkeeper), Fiza Ayub, Gayetri Menon, Janani Thirukkumaran, Mehul Kulkarni, Malavika Rajeev, Neha Kumari, Sai Nikhil Thite, Simran Sheth, Subaneetha Saravanan and Uttara Parameshwaran Iyer.
*Squad age eligibility cutoff – 1 September 2007.
Support Staff: Subha Venkataraman (interim head coach), Shyla Alam (strength and conditioning coach) and Merin Saji (manager and physiotherapist).
