BAJAUR : Former Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Bajaur, Sirajuddin Khan, has raised important concerns regarding development projects, law and order, and political representation in the district. He stated that there is no effective system of checks and balances for ongoing development projects in Bajaur, increasing the risk of fund mismanagement and irregularities.
In a statement, he said that transparent monitoring of development schemes is essential to put the tribal district of Bajaur on the path of progress and prosperity. According to him, without effective oversight, questions arise regarding the proper utilization of public resources, and the benefits of development fail to reach ordinary citizens.
Expressing concern over the law and order situation in the district, Sirajuddin Khan noted that Bajaur Police are confronting serious security challenges, including terrorism, but have not been provided with modern weapons and equipment in line with current requirements. He said that terrorist elements are equipped with advanced weaponry and strategies; therefore, the police must also be provided with modern arms, protective gear, and professional training to effectively combat terrorism.
He urged the government to equip Bajaur Police with modern resources and take special measures to enhance the force’s operational capacity. He emphasized that sustainable peace cannot be achieved without a strong and empowered police force.
The former MPA further stated that Bajaur’s population is larger than that of many other tribal districts, yet the police force remains insufficient relative to the population size. He called for substantial recruitment to strengthen the police force and ensure the protection of lives and property while effectively addressing growing security challenges.
Regarding political representation, Sirajuddin Khan said that, considering Bajaur’s population and geographical size, the district deserves greater representation in the National Assembly. He demanded that future delimitations and elections take population figures and relevant rules and regulations into account and allocate two National Assembly constituencies to Bajaur, enabling residents to receive better political representation and more effective solutions to their problems.
He added that the people of Bajaur have consistently made sacrifices for national security, peace, and stability. Therefore, it is the government’s responsibility to take serious and practical measures to ensure the district’s development, security, and political rights.
