Karachi: District West Police have solved the kidnapping case of two and a half year old Azan Ali Khan, arresting the alleged mastermind along with his accomplices after an investigation supported by CCTV footage, technical and intelligence gathering. Police identified the prime suspect as Muhammad Ehtesham a close friend of the child’s father, who allegedly planned and executed the kidnapping in an attempt to obtain ransom. According to police, the child was abducted on July 18, 2026 from a private residential society. Acting on technical information and investigation, police conducted raids in Karachi and near Gharo leading to the arrest suspects involved in the kidnapping case.
SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastoi said the investigation revealed that Ehtesham had conspired with his brother in law Abdul Wahab and Iftikhar Ahmed a friend of his father’s employee based in Gharo, to carry out the crime. He said the accused Ehtesham arranged a fake number plate for the motorcycle through Abdul Wahab three days before the kidnapping and personally collected the motorcycle, helmet and counterfeit number plate. Suspect first visited the residential society on July 16 but left without entering. On July 17 he returned and reached the victim’s residence but found the house locked and left the area. On July 18 the accused entered the society again waited for nearly two hours and abducted Azan from outside the house. The entire incident was captured by CCTV cameras.
Mastoi added that after abducting the child, Ehtesham handed over both the child and the motorcycle to Abdul Wahab near Jamshed Quarters and instructed him to travel to Gharo. Upon reaching Gharo, Abdul Wahab handed the child over to the third suspect Iftikhar Ahmed. The SSP further said that Ehtesham deliberately remained in close contact with the child’s family, He actively participated in efforts to locate the child and regularly exchanged updates with the family in an attempt to avoid suspicion. Investigation also revealed Ehtesham had sought the assistance of his friend Abdullah who is residing abroad to send a ransom demand of 5 million to the child’s family.
While the continuous police operations, technical investigations and extensive media coverage placed increasing pressure on the suspects. He added that under mounting pressure, Iftikhar Ahmed persuaded Ehtesham to take the child back. Fearing arrest and attempting to present himself as someone assisting the investigation, Ehtesham eventually disclosed the child’s location to the police and the victim’s family.
Acting immediately on the information police formed a special team and accompanied by the child’s family conducted an operation in Gharo successfully recovering Azan unharmed. Police also recovered the motorcycle, helmet, fake number plate and the clothes allegedly worn by the main suspect during the kidnapping. According to officials all three suspects confessed to their involvement during interrogation and provided complete details of the crime. Investigators verified their statements through location data and other technical evidence collected during the investigation.
