PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Adviser for Agriculture Mian Muhammad Umar chair a Progress review meeting of Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project being implemented under On-Farm Water Management.
The meeting reviewed in detail the ongoing development activities under the project, assigned targets, promotion of modern irrigation technologies and progress achieved so far. Implementation of decisions taken in the previous meeting was also reviewed.
Director General On-Farm Water Management Hayat Khan, Project Director Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project Muhammad Asif and district officers of On-Farm Water Management participated in the meeting through video link.
Mian Muhammad Umar made it clear that no negligence in achieving the project’s assigned targets would be tolerated. He directed that strict action be taken against District Directors who fail to achieve their assigned targets. He stressed that all concerned officers must perform their responsibilities effectively and that obstacles hindering the progress of the project should be removed immediately.
The meeting was briefed that work was underway on the installation of High-Efficiency Irrigation Systems under the project to ensure efficient and economical use of water in the agriculture sector. The supply of Laser Land Levelling Units was also in progress to improve the utilization of agricultural water, level farmland and make irrigation systems more effective.
Agriculture Adviser directed the concerned authorities to ensure that all ongoing activities under the project proceed in accordance with the assigned targets and that practical measures be accelerated to achieve the targets by the end of the year. He also directed regular monitoring of the quality and pace of ongoing projects and called for an effective strategy to extend the benefits of modern irrigation systems to maximum agricultural land and farmers.
On the occasion, Agriculture Adviser Mian Muhammad Umar said that High-Efficiency Irrigation Systems could play an important role in promoting agricultural production in water-scarce areas. Modern irrigation technologies would help irrigate larger areas efficiently with less water and ensure that the water requirements of crops are met more effectively.
