PESHAWAR: The fifth edition of the Badezai Cricket League (BCL) Season 5 got underway with a colorful opening ceremony attended by tribal elders, religious scholars, youth, cricket enthusiasts, and local dignitaries.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of Buraq Builders Pvt. Ltd., Ali Haider Babakhail, who was welcomed by Fakhar Alam Khalil, Chief of the Pakhtunkhwa Qaumi Jirga Tappa Khalil.
Addressing the gathering, Ali Haider Babakhail said the growing trend of drug abuse among young people is a serious social challenge and stressed that protecting the youth from narcotics is a collective responsibility. He said sports provide a healthy alternative by promoting discipline, teamwork, and positive thinking while keeping young people away from drugs and other social evils.
He urged the youth to follow the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah, describing the Quran as the ultimate source of guidance for humanity. He added that true success lies in serving society and encouraged young people to utilize their talents in sports, education, and other constructive pursuits.
On the occasion, Babakhail announced that Buraq Builders Pvt. Ltd. would fully sponsor a major cricket tournament if organized at the Khalil tribe level, saying such initiatives would help local players progress to district, provincial, and national competitions.
In the opening match, Multan Sultan scored 148 runs in nine overs, powered by Saifullah’s explosive 90 off 33 balls. In reply, Khalil Youngsters were bowled out for 125, giving Multan Sultan a comfortable victory.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Ali Haider Babakhail announced Rs10,000 each for both participating teams and Rs50,000 for the tournament organizers in recognition of their efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, Fakhar Alam Khalil termed the Badezai Cricket League an excellent platform for engaging youth in healthy activities. He also announced that Ali Haider Babakhail, Malik Amir Khalil, and Fakhar Alam Khalil would jointly work towards establishing a standard cricket ground in Badezai to provide improved facilities for local players.
Participants hailed the successful launch of the league as a positive step towards promoting sports, discovering local talent, and fostering a healthy, drug-free society.
