PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs, Tariq Saeed Marwat, has said that the provincial government is taking practical and effective measures to promote the welfare of journalists, maintain law and order and ensure the timely resolution of public issues. He said journalists are the eyes and ears of society and play a vital role in providing accurate information to the public and strengthening trust between state institutions and the people through responsible and constructive journalism.
He expressed these views while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected office-bearers and members of the Governing Body of the District Press Club Lakki Marwat at his office. On the occasion, he administered the oath of office to the newly elected cabinet and members of the Governing Body.
Tariq Saeed Marwat said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, the provincial government is making every effort to ensure sustainable peace, protect the lives and property of citizens and accelerate the pace of development across the province, particularly in District Lakki Marwat. He urged the journalist community to continue promoting responsible journalism and play its role in conveying positive government initiatives to the public, adding that the government welcomes constructive criticism as a means of institutional improvement.
On the occasion, Vice President of the District Press Club Lakki Marwat, Ghulam Akbar Marwat, presented the welcome address and highlighted the journalists’ demands, including the construction of a permanent building for the Press Club, provision of a grant-in-aid and the establishment of a media colony.
Responding to the demands, Tariq Saeed Marwat termed them genuine and assured the journalist community that, God willing, he would soon visit the District Press Club Lakki Marwat along with the Provincial Minister for Information. He said the visit would provide an opportunity to hold detailed discussions with journalists and initiate practical measures for resolving their issues and promoting their welfare.
The Special Assistant also urged journalists across the district to rise above personal differences and demonstrate unity in order to contribute effectively towards peace, development, social harmony and public welfare. Reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment, he said the government highly values the professional services of journalists and will continue extending every possible support for the resolution of their legitimate concerns.
