A representative delegation of the Tribal Union of Journalists met with Mubarak Zeb, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Tribal Affairs, at his office in Islamabad. The meeting focused on the professional challenges faced by journalists in the merged tribal districts, the difficulties they encounter, and the sacrifices made by journalists in the course of their professional duties.
The delegation, comprising Tribal Union of Journalists General Secretary Muhammad Jamil and Press Secretary Anwarzada Gulyar, briefed the Special Assistant on the various challenges confronting journalism in the tribal districts. The delegation noted that tribal journalists have continued to play a significant role in highlighting public issues and upholding the continuity of press freedom despite terrorism, unrest, displacement, and limited resources.
Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Mubarak Zeb appreciated the services and sacrifices of tribal journalists, saying that journalists in the tribal districts continue to perform their professional responsibilities under extremely difficult circumstances and with limited resources. He said journalism plays a vital role in highlighting public issues, bridging the gap between the government and the people, and creating awareness in society.
Mubarak Zeb assured the delegation of the Tribal Union of Journalists that every possible support would be extended for resolving the legitimate issues of tribal journalists, ensuring their protection, and promoting their welfare. He also assured the delegation that he would play his role in raising their concerns at the relevant forums.
The delegation thanked Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Mubarak Zeb for acknowledging the services and sacrifices of tribal journalists and expressed hope that the government would take practical measures to promote journalism, ensure the safety of journalists, and address their fundamental issues in the merged districts.
