BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for stronger international cooperation to advance global development, urging countries to work together in promoting peace, sustainable growth, innovation, and multilateralism at a high-level meeting marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
Addressing the gathering in Beijing, Wang said the GDI has become an important platform for revitalizing global development and aligning international efforts with the United Nations’ development agenda. He stressed the need for solidarity, accelerated implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, innovation-driven progress, and improved global governance.
Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting developing countries by providing development resources, strengthening cooperation with the Global South, and promoting inclusive and balanced growth. He said China would continue sharing development opportunities with countries worldwide and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
The meeting, jointly hosted by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the China International Development Cooperation Agency, and UN development agencies in China, was attended by senior UN officials, ambassadors, and representatives of the Group of Friends of the GDI.
Participants praised the achievements of the Global Development Initiative over the past five years, describing it as a valuable platform for promoting sustainable development, strengthening multilateral cooperation, and advancing peace and prosperity, particularly for developing countries.
