MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized the importance of international cooperation, dialogue, and respect for international law as essential foundations for global stability, security, and sustainable development.
Speaking at the ceremony for presenting letters of credence by newly appointed ambassadors in Moscow on January 15, President Putin said that peace does not emerge on its own but must be built through consistent effort, responsibility, and deliberate choices. He noted that the current international environment is deteriorating, with old conflicts intensifying and new centers of tension emerging.
The Russian president criticized unilateral actions that replace diplomacy and compromise, stating that some states rely on the “might-makes-right” principle to impose their will on others. He said dozens of countries are suffering from violations of sovereignty, chaos, and lawlessness, lacking the resources to defend their rights.
President Putin stressed that respect for international law and the development of a fair, multipolar world order offer a reasonable path forward. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to a balanced and constructive foreign policy that considers both national interests and global development trends.
He also underscored Russia’s support for strengthening the central role of the United Nations in global affairs and reiterated that security must be comprehensive, equal, and indivisible, warning that ensuring security for some at the expense of others leads to instability.
Referring to the Ukraine crisis, President Putin said it was the result of years of ignoring Russia’s legitimate security concerns and the expansion of NATO towards Russia’s borders, contrary to earlier assurances.
He concluded by stating that Russia remains open to building equal and constructive relations with all international partners in the interest of global prosperity, well-being, and development.
