MARDAN: A Women’s Desk was formally inaugurated at City Police Station Mardan on the occasion of International Women’s Day, aiming to provide women with a safe and friendly environment where they can share their problems without hesitation and receive immediate legal guidance.
The desk was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Women University Mardan, Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana, who cut the ribbon during the ceremony. The initiative was organized with the special efforts of SP City Maria Mustafa, who launched the project to facilitate women and address their issues through a supportive policing environment.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that the establishment of the Women’s Desk will enable women to directly present their complaints to women police officers, which will help remove hesitation and improve access to justice.
Officials informed that around 1.4 million women live in Mardan, and to better address their issues, similar Women’s Desks will be established in other police stations in phases.
During the event, it was highlighted that the initiative follows the concept of “Women for Women,” where women police officers and women prosecutors will play key roles from complaint registration to investigation and legal action, ensuring full support for affected women.
Among those present were Vice Chancellor Abdul Wali Khan University Prof. Dr. Jamil Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Women University Mardan Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana, members of civil society, lawyers, doctors, prosecutors, women members of the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) and women from different fields.
At the end of the event, participants appreciated the efforts of the police and termed the initiative a positive step for enhancing women’s safety, confidence and access to justice.
