DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Deputy Commissioner Office Dera Ismail Khan organized an awareness session and open court on women’s rights under the auspices of the district administration and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ombudsman, in which Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Division Dawood Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ombudsman Rabab Mehdi, Regional Police Officer Ghulam Mubashir Maken, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Nasir Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Principal Degree Government College No. 1 Aafia Saadat, Education Department, officers and representatives of various government departments, Gomal Medical College and a large number of students and women from various educational institutions participated. On this occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ombudsman Rabab Mehdi gave a detailed briefing on the various laws made to protect women’s rights, their powers, scope and grievance redressal procedures. He said that such awareness sessions are being held in all districts of the province to ensure that justice is provided to as many women as possible, including the provision of free and prompt justice. He further said that more than 11,200 hearings have been held in the last ten months since the oath-taking, while 80 to 90 cases are being heard on a daily basis so that pending cases can be disposed of as well as new cases can be heard in a timely manner. Rabab Mehdi said that a special commission is also sent every Friday to provide convenience to the people of remote areas. She explained that justice is being provided in various types of cases under the institution of the Women Ombudsman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including inheritance disputes, harassment at the workplace, human rights violations, gender-based violence, family court-related matters, complaints related to the police department, cybercrime cases and other issues. The Women Ombudsman said that women can register their complaints online through the official website or by contacting the focal person appointed by the district administration. On this occasion, the Regional Police Officer said during his address that a special desk will be started from next Monday where women representatives will be present and the problems and complaints faced by women will be heard. He assured that all the relevant institutions will ensure full implementation of the facilities provided to women. At the end of the event, a special question and answer session was also held for women, in which the complaints raised by the participants were heard on the spot and immediate orders were issued to resolve them.
