Bajaur: A troubling situation has emerged from Bajaur, where a government-run Khyber Pakhtunkhwa radio station has been cut off from electricity, bringing its broadcasting operations to a complete halt. According to sources, WAPDA officials allegedly removed key electrical links from the station’s transformer due to unpaid dues, effectively paralyzing the facility.
Local reports suggest that this action was taken over claims that the radio station had accumulated significant outstanding electricity bills owed to WAPDA. However, neither WAPDA authorities nor the radio station’s management have issued any official statement regarding the matter, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
Meanwhile, the condition of the station’s staff has also raised serious concerns. Sources reveal that radio presenters and other employees have not received their salaries for several months, leaving them in severe financial distress. The staff has urged higher authorities to take immediate notice and ensure the payment of their pending dues.
Furthermore, it is noteworthy that this government radio station, established with millions of rupees from the national exchequer, is now lying completely non-functional. This not only represents a burden on public funds but also deprives the local population of an important source of information and entertainment.
Social circles and journalist organizations have expressed deep concern over the situation and have called on the government to urgently resolve the issue, restore the station’s operations, and hold those responsible accountable to prevent further misuse of public resources.
