ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2026, the Director General of the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan extended warm greetings to innovators, creators, entrepreneurs, and the sports community across the country.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate!”, he said it reflects the growing connection between sports and innovation. He noted that modern sports go beyond athletic performance, encompassing creativity, technology, branding, and commercial value, all of which are protected through intellectual property rights.

He emphasized that Pakistan holds a proud sporting legacy, from cricket and hockey to squash, where athletes have showcased excellence at global levels. He added that behind these achievements lies an expanding ecosystem of innovation, including sports technologies, performance analytics, branding, and media rights.

The Director General also underlined the importance of Pakistan’s sports manufacturing sector, particularly Sialkot, which is internationally recognized for producing high-quality footballs used in major global tournaments, including FIFA World Cups. He stated that this success reflects not only craftsmanship but also the effective use of trademarks, design rights, and quality standards within the intellectual property framework.

Reaffirming commitment, he said IPO Pakistan will continue to promote awareness, strengthen protection systems, and support innovators, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers in safeguarding their ideas and competing globally.

He concluded by urging all stakeholders to foster a culture of innovation and work collectively towards building a stronger and more competitive Pakistan.
