PESHAWAR: Medical Teaching Institution, Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) has made remarkable progress in its clinical service delivery. Service delivery is now consultant-led and consultant-based to enhance quality, consistancy and accountability. OPD timings have been extended in accordance with the guidelines of the Board of Governors, thus providing access to more patients. With the formal separation of the Urology and Transplant units, transplant surgeries are now carried out daily, with waiting times now reduced to less than a month in renal care. The Eye department, PICO, is now conducting corneal transplantation using corneas from the USA – a previously unavailable specialist procedure is now available to patients throughout the region.
Patients enrolled in Sehat Sahoolat Program are now entertained in the morning working hours so that they do not have to be on waiting list enabling the patient and the institution to get the best out of the program.
Infrastructure-wise, a newly renovated ground floor facility has been fully operational and has been occupied by five new specialist divisions of Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, Acute Stroke, Interventional Radiology and Hepatobiliary Surgery. The laundry block is completely renovated and re-equipped and the renovation of the Gynaecology theatres is now 75% complete. Orthopaedic block is now complete and fully functional, though it requires further funds to meet the operational cost of 150 beds.
One of the hospital’s much-anticipated projects, the new Accident and Emergency block is 98 percent structurally complete with HR and biomedical equipment financing currently sought to turn the facility into a reality. The Board of Governors approved PC-1 has been submitted to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Liver and Bone Marrow Transplant programme.
In addition to these physical improvements, the hospital has implemented an online appointment and registration system for patients attending for Institute Based Practice (IBP) which has helped to alleviate queuing times and access. A paperless SSP workflow with a digital dashboard has also been implemented, facilitating claims processing and allowing for the real-time monitoring of the workflow by clinical and administrative staff. These front-facing enhancements are part of the Board’s broader effort to make physical investment directly impactful for establishing improved operational systems and providing a better services to patients.
Digitalisation and integration emergency has been declared by the Board of Governors with clear timelines so that all segments of MTI – HMC are digitalised, integrated and real time data available to concerned officials through coded graded access. It will not only help the institution to go paperless but will also help in financial, adminstrative and academic affairs.
