PESHAWAR: The Petroleum Dealers and Carriage Association has urged the government to reconsider its proposed mechanism for revising petroleum product prices on a daily basis.
According to a press release issued on Monday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Association Chairman Gul Nawaz Afridi and General Secretary Behzad-ur-Rehman said that daily fluctuations in fuel prices would not only create confusion and inconvenience for consumers but would also significantly increase operational, administrative, and financial challenges for petrol pump owners.
They said the proposed system would create serious difficulties in implementing price changes, managing fuel inventories, and handling day-to-day business operations, with negative consequences for both the public and the petroleum sector.
The association called on the government to immediately withdraw the proposal or, alternatively, develop a practical mechanism after consulting all relevant stakeholders, particularly petroleum dealers, that serves the interests of both consumers and the business community.
The office-bearers expressed hope that the government would take their concerns seriously and review the proposed decision. They warned that if the system is implemented in its current form, petrol pump owners may find it extremely difficult to continue normal business operations, and many dealers could be forced to temporarily suspend their businesses. They added that responsibility for any such situation would rest with the relevant policymaking authorities.
