PESHAWAR: The fourth annual inter-college Sports Gala, organized under RMI Education at Rehman Medical Institute (RMI), was formally inaugurated at the Hayatabad Sports Complex, bringing together students from all affiliated colleges in a vibrant display of athletic spirit and unity.
The week-long event features participation from five constituent colleges, with students competing enthusiastically across a range of sports. The gala aims to promote healthy competition, discipline, and teamwork among young participants.
Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider, attended as the chief guest. The ceremony was further graced by the presence of renowned squash legend Jansher Khan and national cricketer Mohammad Wasim, adding prestige and excitement to the occasion.
Senior leadership from RMI was also in attendance, including CEO RMI Shafique ur Rehman, COO Col (R) Tariq Khan, Director Operations Tariq Ali, and Director Sports RMI and Principal of Rehman College of Rehabilitation Sciences Bilal Khan, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests. Principals of all affiliated colleges were also present.
The opening ceremony began with a torch relay and a well-organized march past, where students and faculty showcased discipline and unity. Competitions in cricket, basketball, futsal, badminton, and table tennis are being held throughout the week, providing students with opportunities to demonstrate their skills while embracing sportsmanship and teamwork.
Students from Rehman Medical College, Rehman College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Rehman College of Dentistry, Rehman College of Allied Health Sciences, and Rehman College of Nursing are participating in the event, reflecting a strong culture of healthy and positive competition within the institution.
The ceremony also featured impressive taekwondo demonstrations by students, which were widely appreciated by the audience. Participants also took a pledge to promote sports in a positive spirit and uphold the values of fair competition.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO RMI Shafique ur Rehman emphasized the importance of physical activities alongside academic excellence, noting that sports play a vital role in developing discipline, leadership, resilience, and teamwork among youth.
Chief guest Tashfeen Haider praised RMI’s commitment to promoting sports and extracurricular activities, calling it a meaningful step toward nurturing a healthy and active younger generation.
The event reflects RMI’s broader vision of fostering not only academic excellence but also the physical, mental, and moral development of its students.
