WSSCM Board Approves Primary Collection Vehicles, Tube Well Automation & Staff Transfers

MARDAN: The Board of Directors of Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) has approved the procurement of 22 primary collection vehicles to further improve cleanliness services in urban areas. The Board also approved the automation of six tube wells in the city and the transfer of water supply staff to the Revenue Section.
The decisions were made during the 83rd meeting of the WSSCM Board of Directors, chaired by Chairman Engr. Adil Nawaz. The meeting was attended by Board members Javed Hussain, Haroon Rashid, Mubeena Raziuddin, Regional Municipal Officer Zeeshan Arif, Additional Assistant Commissioner Wisal Khan, and heads of various sections, Secretary Local Government Zafar-ul-Islam and Deputy Secretary Finance Masood Ahmad attended the meeting online.
The Board expressed displeasure over the deployment of employees appointed as beldars in different sections. It approved the deployment of all such staff in field assignments to strengthen sanitation operations and ensure effective service delivery.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Engr. Adil Nawaz directed strict implementation of the monsoon plan and directed the concerned departments to expedite the cleaning of all small and major drains across the city. He said the measures were necessary to prevent difficulties for residents during heavy rainfall.
He appealed to citizens and the business community to voluntarily remove encroachments from drains, stating that their cooperation would help prevent drainage and waterlogging issues during the monsoon season.
Engr. Adil Nawaz said that the city’s sewerage lines and drains, constructed around 30 years ago, have limited capacity to handle heavy rainfall, resulting in water accumulating on roads at several locations. He added that approximately Rs4.5 billion is required for the construction of 100 kilometers of sewerage lines and drains in Mardan, for which a PC-I has been submitted to the provincial government.
The Board also approved the Clean and Green Youth Fellowship Program.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board of Directors presented a shield to WSSCM Chief Executive Officer Engr. Adil Nawaz in recognition of his performance.
