Bajaur : On the directions of Tribal Union of Journalists President Hasbanullah Khan, World Press Freedom Day was observed in Bajaur and other merged districts. In this connection, a ceremony was held at Bajaur Press Club.
Addressing the gathering, Hasbanullah Khan, who is also the President of Bajaur Press Club and Tribal Union of Journalists, said that journalists are the “bright eyes” of society and their primary role is to deliver facts and truth to the public. He stated that journalists in the tribal districts face a severe lack of professional training, due to which many are unable to distinguish between authentic news and disinformation.
He urged the government to launch special training programs for journalists in the tribal districts so they can perform their duties in accordance with modern journalistic standards and requirements.
Hasbanullah Khan further said that journalists in the tribal areas have made immense sacrifices during the war against terrorism, but the families of martyred journalists have not been provided with adequate support and protection. He specifically mentioned the sacrifices of martyred journalists Dr. Noor Hakim Jan and Ibrahim Jan, stating that their families are still facing hardships.
He demanded effective legislation from the government for the protection and welfare of journalists and for securing a better future for their children. He added that journalism is a difficult and challenging profession, but journalists will continue their journey of truth and integrity under all circumstances.
